Free Archives and Digital Collections 101 Workshop
The Colorado Historical Records Advisory Board (CHRAB), in partnership with the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), invites you to attend a FREE, 2-day, Archives and Digital Collections 101 Workshop on September 23 at Adams State University.
What You Can Expect
Day 1: September 23, 2024
8:30-12:00: Morning Session
Archival Processing and Photo Archiving
The morning session of the workshop will focus on archival processing best practices, including a section on archiving photos. The workshop is geared towards those working in smaller archival repositories and those who may not have had formal archival training. Participants are encouraged to bring questions and sample items from their collections that present specific challenges in processing. FREE Archives tool kits will be provided by CHRAB.
12:00-1:00: Lunch provided by CHRAB

1:00-5:00: Afternoon Session
Digital Collections 101: A Toolkit for Creating & Promoting Digital Collections
Digitization is not simply making a digital copy of an object. It is a process of collecting, reformatting, cataloging, storing, and sharing digital objects. With this workshop you will learn the fundamentals of each area of the digitization workflow: selection, digital capture, description, and sharing, and leave with a toolkit to get you started on your digitization journey. This workshop is for those that are new to digital collections.
Day 2: September 24, 2024 (Half day)
8:00-1:00 Site Visits
Attendees have the opportunity for presenters to conduct site visits to local, archival institutions in need of assistance or advice. If you are interested in a site visit, please include this in your registration email. Due to time constraints, site visits can be organized in the following counties: Alamosa, Rio Grande, Costilla, Saguache, and Custer and will be secured on a first come, first serve basis.

This workshop focuses on best practices for those working in smaller archival repositories and those who may not have had formal archival training. Participants are encouraged to bring questions and sample items from their collections that present specific challenges in processing.
The Museum of Northwest Colorado has generously agreed to host the event in Craig, Colorado and will be held from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. The address for the museum is 590 Yampa Ave, Craig, CO 81625. Please visit the Museum of Northwest Colorado's website for more information.
FREE lunch and snacks will be provided at the event for participants. Participants will also receive a FREE Archives 101 Tool Kit which includes an archival box, acid free folders, and other archival preservation tools to jumpstart your processing project.

Presented by three members from the State Historical Records Advisory Board: Shaun Boyd, Archivist with the Douglas County History Research center; Dr. Holly Norton, State Archaeologist with History Colorado, and Aly Jabrocki, State Archivist for the State of Colorado.
