Historic Mine Reports

About this Collection: Historic Mine Report Files c. 1900-1980

Miners appear in silhouette in a mine shaft

This large collection of mining records from the Department of Natural Resources is organized alphabetically by county and mine name from 1900-1980.  The collection is especially useful to those doing corporate research; mine history, geological work, and is often referred to when we conduct research for uranium miners who are trying to document their radon exposure levels.

Mine files consist of two types of reports: "Annual Operator Reports" and "Annual Inspector Information Reports."  Information found in these records may include name of mine, kind of operation, mine owner, insurance carrier, mine operator, location of property, production for the year, labor statistics, geological formation, size of deposit/vein, and a description of equipment and structures.  Please note that the files described above may not include an annual report for every year that the mine was in operation.
