The Colorado State Archives holds a wide variety of legal records that are available for research.
 

Court Records

The Colorado State Archives has in its holdings Supreme Court case records and civil and criminal cases from various county and district courts throughout Colorado. The Archives maintains the case files, which contains all documents filed in a case.

How to Find Information

To research Supreme Court and Court of Appeals cases, you will need the case number. To research county and district court cases in Colorado, you will need the name of the county/district court in which the action was filed and a case number. If you do not have a case number, you will need to call the county/district that the case was filed for a case number.

Gilpin County Chancery Cases 1862-1878

These groups of records represent those of a very early period in Colorado's history that documented legal decisions rendered by the territorial and district court of Gilpin County for the years 1862 - 1878. Chancery cases are those types of cases where justice was applied in circumstances not specifically covered by law during these years.

 

Gilpin District Court Appointments & Oaths 1861-1882

These small groups of records represent those of a very early period in Colorado's history that recorded specific actions rendered by the territorial and district court of Gilpin County for the years 1861 - 1882.
